Welcome to Humber River Shakespeare

Humber River Shakespeare is a professional theatre company that seeks to enrich the artistic profile of communities along the historic Humber River. We are dedicated to creating high caliber, classical theatre productions that are accessible, entertaining and popular. Recognizing that the communities of Caledon, King Township, Vaughan, and Etobicoke are artistically under served, Humber River Shakespeare seeks to fill that void by providing high-quality, free, and accessible performances and workshops in the pastoral beauty of the Humber River Region.

We are dedicated to the creation of new plays inspired by both the works of Shakespeare, and the history of the Humber River and its surrounding communities.

We strive to produce theatrically engaging work with a focus on actors and simple staging, to tell Shakespeare’s timeless stories. Our emphasis is on making the text understandable and accessible to both the Shakespearean novice and the experienced theatre patron.

Coming this summer 2010: The Taming of the Shrew

We are thrilled to be returning this summer with an expanded outdoor touring production of The Taming of the Shrew.
With a biting tongue and a ferocious temper, the headstrong Kate bows down to no man. But then a suspicious suitor named Petruchio swaggers into town with a mischievous plan to reach her guarded heart. Wrestling with questions of marriage, love, and greed, this comic courtship is a no-holds-barred Battle of the Sexes.

With twice as many performances as in our inaugural season and now touring for 4 weeks, we are excited to bring our by-donation, outdoor theatre to new patrons and returning friends alike.
